Introduction
This qualification is aimed at all practitioners working in the childcare workforce at Level 3, such as childminders, nursery practitioners, preschool practitioners, of school/holiday provision workers. The qualification provides practitioners with the opportunity to upskill and develop management skills so that they can take on new roles and responsibilities. Achievement of this qualification could lead to potential job opportunities, such as Senior Practitioner, Room Leader, Supervisor, Management (e.g. Deputy or Relief), Mentor. All learners need to complete the 8 mandatory units. There are 4 optional units, one of which must be chosen.
What you'll learn
To gain this qualification, learners must complete all of the 8 mandatory units plus a minimum of one optional unit.
Unit 1– Study skills Level 3
Unit 2 - Legal requirements/Legislation in childcare Level 4
Unit 3 - Understanding child development and how children learn Level 4
Unit 4 - Support programmes that promote children’s development Level 4
Unit 5 - Longitudinal studies Level 4
Unit 6 - Leadership, management and supervision Level 4
Unit 7 - Working in partnership Level 4
Unit 8 - Reflecting, reviewing and evaluating own practise Level 4
Optional Units
Unit 9 – Working with babies 0-18 months Level 4
Unit 10 – Play for out of school/holiday provision Level 4
Unit 11 – Care of two year olds Level 4
Unit 12 – Carrying out a research project Level 4
Learners must hold a ‘full and relevant’ level 3 in Childcare and have a good standard of literacy and numeracy. Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
