Big News: Apprenticeships Are Changing (And It’s Great News for Early Years!)

big news

We’ve got some important news to share straight from the Department for Education (DfE) that’s going to change the game for apprenticeships in our sector. We know how busy you are, so we’ve broken it down to explain what it means for you, your settings, and your future apprentices.

So, what’s the big change?

Simply put, from 1st August 2025, the rules are getting more flexible. The minimum time an apprenticeship must take is being reduced from 12 months to just 8 months, but only where it makes sense for the apprentice.

This isn’t about cutting corners. It’s a government move to make things more flexible, helping great people qualify and start making a full contribution to your nursery rooms even faster. It’s perfect for those talented individuals who are ready to soak up knowledge and skills at a quicker pace, all without skimping on the quality of their learning.

Our Answer: The New EYE Level 3 Fast-Track

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to get ready for this, and we’re really excited to launch our new EYE Level 3 Fast-Track Apprenticeship.

Think of it as an express route for your superstar team members. It’s designed to be completed in as little as 8 months, but we’ve built in a cushion so they have up to 12 months to finish if they need it. Life happens, and we want to make sure everyone feels supported, not rushed.

Is the Fast-Track the right fit? Let’s figure it out together.

This route is brilliant, but it’s not for everyone. It needs a real team effort from a dedicated learner and a super-supportive employer like you.

Before we sign anyone up, we have a really good chat with both of you to make sure it’s the right path. It all comes down to a few key questions:

For the Employer:

  • Are you able to give your learner that extra bit of support? We’re talking about making sure they can get their hands on roughly 40 hours of learning opportunities a month to gather all that vital experience.

For the Learner:

  • Are you super-motivated and ready to dive in? You’ll need to be able to pack all your On-The-Job hours (326 of them!) into a shorter time.
  • Are you cool with attending twice as many teaching sessions? We need to squeeze all that great learning in!
  • Are you 19 or over? We find our younger learners (16-18) are often on part-time hours or still gaining that initial confidence, which can make the fast-track pace a bit too much of a stretch.
  • Do you work over 30 hours a week? This is pretty essential to get all those hours done.
  • And this is a big one: Do you already have your Maths and English GCSEs (at grade 4/C or above) or equivalent? You’ll need these signed off right at the start. Remember, we can’t count you in the ratios without them!

Let’s chat!

We think this is a fantastic chance to help your amazing staff progress faster and support your setting sooner. If you’ve got someone in mind who’s bursting with potential and ready for a challenge, give us a call. Let’s have a chat and figure out if the fast-track could be the perfect route for them.

Here’s to building our brilliant workforce, together.
