Key changes across both frameworks:
- Updated safer sleep guidance for babies and young children – including the requirements on sleep spaces, positioning and room temperature.
- New requirements for providers to have regard to DfEguidance on children’s screen use.
- Banned dog breeds (such as XL Bully type) must not be present on premises at any time.
- Safeguarding clarifications including updated guidance on child absences, whistleblowing procedures, allergy and choking safety during mealtimes, and volunteer suitability checks – reflecting the removal of the supervision exception under the Crime and Policing Act 2026.
- Providers of childcare on domestic premises must notify Ofsted or their childminding agency of any changes to persons aged 16 or over living or working on the premises.
