About this course
The Paediatric First Aid Certificate is a mandatory component of the Early Years Educator Apprenticeship. Eden Training Solutions support all apprentices and employers, we work under the Qualifications Network UK which is one of the UK’s leading Awarding Organisations for First Aid and Safety qualifications. Working under this awarding body, our aim is to contribute to the reduction of workplace injuries and illness through effective training and education.
For Early Years/Childcare settings, the Paediatric First Aid qualification is one of the routes to achieving this aim; however, for learners to have effective education, they need highly competent trainers, sufficient resources, engaging learning environments, and valid assessments. These high standards are maintained through our effective quality assurance processes.

Part 1 - E-Learning Module (12 hours)
This e-learning module has been designed to give learners the theoretical knowledge needed to accompany a practical face-to-face training day and meets all EYFS/Ofsted requirements.
The E-Learning Module must be completed before the practical training day.
Access
This online course can be completed on any PC or mobile device. Learners can study at their own pace and log in and out as often as they wish.
This course also covers what to do if a child is experiencing a medical emergency:
- Meningitis
- Diabetic emergency
- Seizures
- Asthma attack
- Severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock)
- Injury to a bone, muscle or joint (including spinal injuries)
- Head injury
- Swallowed something harmful

Part 2 - Practical (6 hours)
Delivered on site (or an agreed local venue) by one of our leading industry trainers, your learners will experience a practical, hands-on approach that delivers the skills and confidence to use first aid skills in real-life situations.
- Unresponsive and not breathing, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- CPR
- AED
- Choking
- Bleeding
- Bone muscle and joint injuries
- Spinal injuries & anaphylaxis
- Burning or scalding
- An object in their eye, ear or nose
- Hypothermia or heat exhaustion
- Sickness or a fever

Millie's Mark Award
Millie’s Mark will be awarded as a special endorsement to childcare providers that go above and beyond these minimum requirements by having 100% of staff trained in paediatric first aid, and also ensuring that everything learned during the course is kept alive and in the forefront of practitioners’ minds so that they are confident, ready and capable.
When your setting gains the Millie’s Mark accreditation, you provide reassurance for your parents that all childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation. It acknowledges that children’s safety is at the forefront of your mind when you care for children.
