As the leading training provider of early years in the England, Eden were the first training provider with the EPAO ActiveIQ to successfully achieve an apprentice with the Early Years Lead Practitioner (L 5).

The Early Years Lead Practitioner is a proactive and influential leader, working directly with children, and skilfully leading day to day practice at an operational level. As active practitioners they are effective role models of play based learning, supporting others to develop their own practice.

Early Years Lead Practitioners are highly skilled professionals who take an operational lead for the care, learning & development of all young children within their care, adapting to individual needs providing inclusive and holistic provision.

They engage with sector developments both locally and nationally, with a commitment to developing their own professional and educational competencies.

About Our Course:

Apprenticeship Standard

The Early Years Lead Practitioner (L5) standard aims to provide apprentices with the expert knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

It supports lead practitioners to work in partnership with key staff, parents and/or carers to meet the individual need of each child.

The Early Years Lead Practitioner (L5) focuses on the following key EYFS themes:

Learning & Assessments:

  • Promote the health, well-being of all children, self-regulation and resilience through rich learning environments, opportunities for challenging play, healthy attitude towards risk taking
  • Provide playful, sensitive interaction opportunities that reflect children’s needs, interests, motivations and extend deep level learning
  • Participate in and lead daily routines and practice, including children’s’ personal care, play, maintaining the physical environment.
  • Be an effective key person and advocate for the child, supporting the child’s developmental, emotional, daily needs
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the key person approach across the aspect or environment for which they are responsible.
  • Lead and provide support in disseminating best practice in the use of observation, assessments and planning to meet children’s needs and extend their holistic development within the aspect or environment for which they are responsible
  • Promote, demonstrate, and facilitate a clear understanding of diversity and equality to support all children, including those with additional needs, those of high ability, those with English as an additional language and those with disabilities. To be able to use and evaluate distinctive approaches which engage and support inclusivity of all children within their social and cultural context
  • Ensure full compliance with all safeguarding legislation, policies and strategies at a national, local, and setting based level are promoted, implemented, and embedded respectfully within practice, providing appropriate support to colleagues as, or supporting, the Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Demonstrate leaderful practice through the effective deployment of resources and practitioners keeping the child’s voice and needs central to practice

The End Point Assessment (EPA) process, including timings, methods and outcomes are outlined within the Early Years Lead Practitioner (L5) delivery model.

The Skills Coach and apprentice discuss all EPA requirements during the quarterly review with the employer every 12-weeks; this ensure all parties are aware and progressing towards these goals.

Once all relevant teaching, learning and assessment activities have been completed, the Sector Specialists and Skills Coach will undertake mock- based activities that will mirror the End-Point Assessment, fully preparing the apprentice for their EPA.

The EPA Organisation will carry out the final independent assessments.

Once EPA arrangement have been confirmed, the Skills Coach will undertake a final Gateway Review with the apprentice and employer to confirm progress through to EPA.

The End-Point Assessment Administrator ensures the apprentice has the

correct resources to successfully complete their End Point Assessment.

Upon completion, apprentices are expected to be ready to take on senior leadership roles such as Head of Room, Early Years Manager, or other supervisory positions within educational settings.

This qualification opens doors to enhanced career opportunities and the potential for further academic and professional development in the field of early childhood education.

This qualification is the logical next step for an Early Years Educator where enhanced managerial activities are carried out. The Early Years Lead Practitioner (L5) further enhances their knowledge, skills, and behaviours whilst at the same time advancing their own career opportunities and social mobility.

The Early Years Lead Practitioner (L5) apprenticeship offers stretch and challenge in developing the relevant new skills that are truly valued by employers; this apprenticeship is enriched through the additional and complementary features which serve to enhance the overall learning experience, these include:

 

Skills Coaches

Vastly experienced and highly qualified in early years, the Skills Coach consults with the employer and apprentice to ensure achievement milestones and improvement targets are appropriate to the workplace and accelerate learning.

The Skills Coach coordinates the apprentices’ planned off-the-job, their attendance at teaching sessions and learning/assessment activities’,, and preparation for end-point assessment (EPA), offering IAG & practical support.

The apprenticeship is coordinated and sequenced according to individual apprentice and employer needs. The Skills Coach guides the apprentice through their apprenticeship, helping them to embed their newly acquired knowledge, skills & behaviours in their job.

A range of blended e-learning courses for apprentices’ including GDPR in Early Years, E-Safety Safeguarding, Children’s Mental Health, Child Development, Personal & Social Development, Food Allergy Awareness & Nutrition, Introduction to the EYFS, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.

 

Functional Skills Tutors

Supports the apprentice in developing their numeracy and literacy skills through a range of resources, and tools. These include BKSB which prepares the apprentice through to the achievement of their functional skills tests in English and maths.

The Functional Skills Tutor ensures barriers to learning are overcome, providing support for special educational needs and disabilities.
